Navigating to John Muir Concord: Entrance and Parking

The primary entrance to John Muir Health, Concord Medical Center is conveniently located off Almond Avenue. For visitors driving to the facility, there are 82 dedicated parking spaces available in our main parking lot. To accommodate all visitors, additional parking is also accessible behind the medical center, adjacent to the Emergency Department entrance. This alternative parking area can be reached via Park Ave.

To assist you upon arrival, we have enhanced signage throughout the area. Furthermore, an attendant is stationed at the main entrance parking lot to help direct traffic and provide a map if you require directions to the alternate parking area.

Understanding Visiting Hours and Check-In Procedures

John Muir Concord maintains visitor hours between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily. It’s important to note that specific units or departments may have their own guidelines, potentially including visiting hours that differ from the general schedule. Unit staff will inform patients and visitors of any department-specific regulations.

Before entering patient care areas, all visitors are required to check-in at the entry desks. Please be prepared to present a government-issued identification card. Upon successful check-in, you will receive a John Muir Health visitor badge, which must be worn visibly at all times during your visit. If your badge is misplaced, please obtain a replacement from the entrance where visitor badges are distributed. Your visitor badge will designate the specific unit or area you are authorized to visit.

Visitor Responsibilities for a Safe and Healing Environment

To ensure the well-being of our patients and staff, we ask all visitors to adhere to the following responsibilities:

  • Health Considerations: Please refrain from visiting if you are feeling unwell, particularly if you have symptoms of infection, fever, cold, diarrhea, or vomiting.
  • Conduct: Inappropriate, loud, or threatening behavior is not permitted. Visitors should conduct themselves respectfully at all times.
  • Substance Use: Visiting while intoxicated or under the influence of any substances is prohibited.
  • Attire: Please wear appropriate attire, including shoes and a shirt, while on the premises.
  • Care Plan Respect: Respect the patient’s treatment and care plan. Do not provide any care, treatment, food, or fluids without explicit physician orders.
  • Safety and Security: Verbal or physical abuse, aggression, or violence will not be tolerated.

Prohibited Items: For the safety and security of everyone at John Muir Concord, the following items are not permitted within the facility:

  • Weapons of any kind (firearms, knives, Tasers, pepper spray, etc.)
  • Metal items (razors, paper clips, staples, spiral notebooks, metal cans, safety pins, three-ring binders, nail files/clippers, metal hair clips, etc.)
  • Tobacco or vaping products (e-cigarettes, etc.)
  • Outside food or beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and perishable items not approved by the hospital.
  • Drug paraphernalia (pipes, bongs, etc.)
  • Non-hospital prescribed medications, including marijuana products.
  • Drugs not ordered by a licensed physician.
  • Fire ignition sources (lighters, matches, etc.)
  • Flammable items
  • Bottles of any type

Consequences of Violations: Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in:

  • Revocation of visiting privileges.
  • Requirement to sign a Behavior Agreement in consultation with Patient Engagement.
  • Involvement of Law Enforcement.

Guidelines for Visitation by Minors/Infants

Visitation by minors and infants is welcome under specific conditions:

  • Child’s Health: Ensure the child exhibits no signs of illness.
  • Adult Supervision: A responsible adult (other than the patient) must accompany and supervise the child at all times. Children cannot be left unattended anywhere in the Medical Center.
  • Appropriate Behavior: The child must behave in a manner that promotes a safe and healing environment for everyone.
  • Direct Access to Patient Room: Bring the child directly to the patient’s room and avoid prolonged stays in waiting areas.
  • Patient Condition: Visitation by minors/infants may be discouraged if the patient’s condition or treatment could cause emotional distress to the child.

  • Location: First floor of the Concord Campus, next to the Gift Shop.

Gift Shop

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM (when volunteers are available)
