John Cena has once again addressed his reasons for not wanting to have children. In a recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, the 47-year-old actor and professional wrestler elaborated on his choice to remain child-free.

During his conversation with host Shannon Sharpe, Cena explained his perspective when asked about children. “I don’t want them,” Cena stated plainly. “I have a certain curiosity about life, and I also know the investment that it takes.” He further detailed his reasoning, acknowledging his driven and sometimes selfish nature. “My biggest fear is, as someone who’s driven – many times stubborn, and selfish – I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity, but I don’t think I’m personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent because I want to live life for all it is. And I still have a lot to do. And I still want to do a lot. I have a wonderful partner I do it with. We’ve had open conversations about this. We share the same values.”
Cena acknowledged that his stance on not having kids can be a sensitive topic. He noted that it often leads to immediate categorization and judgment from others, which he recognizes as “human nature.” However, Cena expressed confidence in his decision, which he says he has held since his teenage years. “I’m very happy with where I stand. I have a lot of joy and fulfillment in my life. And that’s pretty much where I stand on it,” he affirmed.

This isn’t the first time Cena’s views on family have been a point of discussion. His previous relationship with WWE star Nikki Garcia, which lasted from 2012 to 2018, ended partly due to differing opinions on having children. Garcia revealed in a 2020 interview that while Cena was eventually willing to have kids, she realized it wasn’t a shared desire, and ultimately, they wanted different paths in life.
Since then, Cena has found happiness with his current wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, whom he married in 2020. He has indicated that they share the same values regarding children, reinforcing his contentment with his decision to remain child-free and focus on living life to the fullest with his partner.
