The journey of John Boos & Co. began with Conrad Boos, a blacksmith who ingeniously utilized local sycamore wood to create sturdy platforms in his workshop. Recognizing the potential of these robust wooden surfaces, a local butcher commissioned Boos to create a block for meat preparation. This sparked an idea in Conrad’s son, John, who refined the design, giving birth to the original Boos cutting board and establishing John Boos & Co.
Today, John Boos & Co. processes millions of board feet of sustainably harvested North American hard-rock maple annually. Each Boos Block is meticulously handcrafted over three days, a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to quality. This dedication to craftsmanship hasn’t gone unnoticed. Boos Blocks are frequently featured on popular cooking shows hosted by celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay and Emeril Lagasse, and are indispensable tools in Michelin-starred restaurants globally.
