Just back from an incredible getaway to St. John, and our villa stay at St. John Westin was truly the highlight. To fully embrace the island’s beauty, we decided to rent a Jeep, and it was absolutely the right choice. Having our own vehicle from Sunshine rentals gave us the freedom to explore St. John’s stunning beaches and hiking trails at our own pace. Sunshine Rentals provided excellent service, even picking us up right at the ferry dock with our Jeep ready to go. While taxis are an option to reach some beaches, securing a ride back to St. John Westin can be less convenient, especially from more secluded spots. However, for popular destinations like Trunk Bay beach, taxi services are readily available.

Cruz Bay, with its charming restaurants and shops, is a short drive from St. John Westin. Although perhaps a bit too far for a comfortable walk, taxis are easily accessible if you opt not to rent a vehicle. For stocking up on essentials, there are a couple of grocery stores conveniently located near St. John Westin. We visited St. John Market and Dolphin Market closer to town. It’s worth noting that island prices can be higher, so packing some snacks might be a good idea.
The beauty of The Westin St. John is undeniable. If you do rent a car, keep in mind that parking directly around the villas is not available. However, the Westin staff efficiently manages transportation, offering golf cart service to your building, or you can enjoy a pleasant walk through the resort grounds.
For a fantastic dining experience, don’t miss Beach Bar in Cruz Bay. It was one of our favorite meals – the shrimp is simply outstanding! And be sure to indulge in their renowned Painkiller or Bushwacker cocktails – they are absolutely fabulous. We enjoyed it so much we went back for a second visit! Beach Bar’s beachfront location in Cruz Bay adds to its charm.
In conclusion, our stay at St. John Westin was exceptional. The combination of comfortable villa accommodations and the freedom to explore St. John at our leisure made for an unforgettable vacation. Renting a vehicle definitely enhanced our experience, allowing us to fully appreciate all that this beautiful island has to offer.
