His year-long battle with cancer showcased remarkable courage and strength, inspiring all who knew him. Even in the face of pain and hardship, Mark remained a hero, steadfast and resilient until the very end.
From childhood, Mark’s playful nature was evident in his teasing of his three sisters and his humorous attempts to keep them out of his bedroom. He had a youthful fascination with a collection of rubber lizards, immersed himself in the Star Wars universe, and enjoyed the world of Nintendo. Even at a young age, Mark developed a strong sense of personal style, particularly regarding clothes, shoes, and colors – a trait that remained with him throughout his life. He took great pride in his appearance, consistently sought out new shoes, and often favored wearing the color orange.
As Mark St John grew into his teenage years, a passion for the medical field began to blossom, leading him to set his sights on becoming a cardio-thoracic surgeon. He eagerly enrolled in advanced medical classes at Maple Mountain High School and thoroughly enjoyed his time at Weber State University. Demonstrating incredible dedication, he continued his education even while facing health challenges, looking forward to graduation. His final academic project was a poignant presentation on navigating life with cancer at 25, a testament to his personal journey and insightful perspective.
Following high school, Mark embarked on an LDS mission to Spokane, Washington, where his love for nature deepened, particularly for pine trees and the outdoors. He served with immense dedication and commitment, wholeheartedly embracing the opportunity to strengthen his relationship with his faith.
In a beautiful chapter of his life, Mark’s lifelong connection with Erika blossomed into love. Having first met at just six months old and reconnecting in junior high, their bond was immediate and enduring. They became best friends and soulmates, marrying in October 2019. Together, they embraced life to the fullest, traveling the world and creating cherished memories. Their greatest joy arrived in August 2022 with the birth of their daughter, Alayna Rose. Alayna became the radiant light of their lives, especially during the challenging year they faced.
