Meet Josh Johns: Your Trusted Meteorologist at KXXV

Josh Johns is a dedicated broadcast meteorologist at KXXV, bringing his passion for weather and expertise to Central Texas viewers. Born and raised in North Texas, specifically Cleburne, Josh’s fascination with meteorology began in his childhood, growing up amidst the region’s dramatic severe weather patterns. This early exposure ignited a desire within him to understand and forecast the weather, leading him to pursue a career in broadcast meteorology.

Driven by his ambition, Josh Johns attended Texas A&M University, a renowned institution for meteorological studies. There, he rigorously pursued his passion and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. Even during his college years, Josh was proactive in gaining practical experience. He completed internships at KTVT-TV in Fort Worth and KWTX in Waco. Notably, it was at these internships where Josh made his debut on-air, gaining valuable early experience in broadcasting weather forecasts.

After graduating from Texas A&M, Josh Johns officially launched his career in broadcast meteorology with a brief period at KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas. He then returned to his roots in Cleburne, where he took on substitute teaching positions while simultaneously contributing his meteorological skills to KFDX in Wichita Falls as a fill-in meteorologist. This period showcased his adaptability and commitment to both education and his meteorological career.

In March 2016, Josh Johns took a significant step in his career by joining KLST-TV in San Angelo. Initially, he served as the weekend meteorologist, quickly establishing himself as a valuable asset to the weather team. His dedication and behind-the-scenes efforts to improve weather coverage were quickly recognized. This hard work culminated in a well-deserved promotion to Chief Meteorologist for KLST‘s sister station, KSAN, in August 2017.

Before assuming his role as Chief Meteorologist at KSAN, Josh Johns played a crucial support role in Hurricane Harvey coverage at sister station KXAN. This experience further solidified his expertise in handling and communicating during severe weather events. During his time at KSAN, Josh expertly covered numerous severe weather incidents that impacted the Concho Valley. This included tracking multiple powerful tornadoes, some reaching EF-2 and EF-3 strength. One particularly close call involved an EF-2 tornado that directly impacted San Angelo, passing within a mere two blocks of the station. Even when the power went out during this dramatic event, Josh and his team persevered, utilizing Facebook Live and any available resources to continue providing critical weather updates to the community.

Beyond his professional life as a meteorologist, Josh Johns enjoys the vibrant Texas music scene, spending time with his friends, and relaxing with his Blue Heeler dog.
