Remembering John Stanton: A Life of Faith, Family, and Community

John (Jack) Stanton, a resident of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on September 11, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on February 6, 1951, in Chicago, IL, to John and LaVerne (Lenahan) Stanton, John Stanton, or Jack as he was known to many, lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, friendship, and a passion for supporting young athletes.

Those who knew John Stanton understood the central role of his faith. His commitment to God and the teachings of Jesus Christ was evident in his daily life and interactions with others. This faith formed the bedrock of his character and guided his relationships.

For 49 years, John Stanton shared his life with his beloved wife, Carol. Their enduring marriage was a testament to their love and commitment, with Jack eagerly anticipating their 50th anniversary. Together, they built a loving family with two children, Megan and Michael. Megan, married to Vu Nguyen, brought two grandchildren, Maeve and James, into John Stanton’s life, adding immeasurable joy. Michael, in particular, held a special place as John Stanton’s “best buddy,” a bond cherished by them both.

Beyond his family, John Stanton cultivated deep and lasting friendships. He was the kind of friend who stood by you through thick and thin, offering unwavering support and loyalty. His friends knew him as someone they could count on, a true companion in life’s journey.

John Stanton’s passion extended beyond his immediate circle to the wider community, especially when it came to children and sports. He was a constant presence at local sporting events, particularly volleyball and football games. Known affectionately as “Big Jack,” he passionately believed in supporting young people in their athletic endeavors, regardless of whether he knew them personally. He understood the importance of community support in helping children develop and make positive choices. For John Stanton, being part of the village that raises kids was not just a saying, but a way of life.

A true sports enthusiast, John Stanton cheered on his favorite teams, including the White Sox, IU basketball, and Notre Dame football, and enjoyed watching any game that was on television. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

John Stanton is survived by his wife Carol, his daughter Megan (Vu) Nguyen, his son Michael, his sisters Mari Stanton and Kelly (Tony) Perry, his brother David (Phyllis) Stanton, and his grandchildren Maeve and James Nguyen.
