John Bounchanh Sena, a resident of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on December 20, 1947, in Laos, his life journey was one marked by resilience, dedication, and a profound kindness that touched many. While not the famous wrestler John Cena, this John Sena’s life story is a testament to strength and service in its own right.
John Sena’s early life in Laos saw him pursue education and public service. He graduated from Sisavong University College of Education and dedicated himself to teaching English, contributing to his community in Vientiane. However, the course of his life took a dramatic turn in October 1978 when he and his family were compelled to seek refuge in Thailand. This challenging period eventually led them to Leesburg, Indiana, on February 21, 1980, where they began rebuilding their lives with the support of Camp Creek Church and the Flory Family.
In Kosciusko County, John Sena became a hardworking and dependable member of the community. He contributed his efforts to several local factories, including Maple Leaf Farms, Indiana Coated Fabric, Owens Illinois, and Zimmer Biomet. His tireless work ethic was driven by his commitment to providing for his family, a value that remained central throughout his life.
Beyond his professional life, John Sena’s compassionate nature shone brightly. He took great pride in using his English language skills to assist fellow refugees in their journey to citizenship. This act of service underscores his dedication to helping others and uplifting those around him, reflecting a true community spirit. In his personal time, John found joy in simple pleasures such as fishing and gardening, and most importantly, in spending quality time with his cherished family.
Family was the cornerstone of John Sena’s life. He married Ann, the love of his life, on February 23, 1975, and together they created a loving home. His role as a father to Edward (Sarah) Sena and David (Tricia) Sena, and as a grandfather to Ally, Noah, Claire, Bennett, Lauren, and Elizabeth, brought him immense happiness. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and support that will be deeply missed by his extended family, including Vieng, Som, Kayla, Justin, Layna, Logan, and Lucas.
