John Dewitt Rucker, affectionately known to many as “J Ruck” or “Jon Jon,” passed away on December 3, 2020, at Akron City Hospital. Born on December 29, 1981, in Akron, Ohio, to Gloria Rucker and Derrick Mosley, John was a lifelong resident of Akron and a cherished member of his community. His life, though marked by its challenges, was ultimately a testament to his devotion to family, his capacity for friendship, and his generous spirit.
John’s Akron roots ran deep. He attended Garfield High School and, throughout his life, embraced various work experiences. Interestingly, he found profound fulfillment and challenge as a stay-at-home dad. In this role, he excelled, managing the household with remarkable care and dedication, often exceeding expectations. For the last four years, John collaborated with his close friend Lou London at Really Genie, applying his diverse skills to kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects. This work not only showcased his practical abilities but also highlighted his commitment to friendship and collaboration.
Family was the cornerstone of John Rucker’s world. From a young age, he was deeply connected to his mother Gloria and sister Benita. This close-knit unit expanded significantly as John and Benita built their own families, together raising 18 children and welcoming 4 grandchildren. This growth only strengthened the bonds, creating a large, loving, and supportive extended family.
This devotion extended to the family John himself created with his fiancé Aleasha of 12 years. Their relationship was built on a foundation of love, prayer, and mutual growth. They were inseparable partners, navigating life’s journey together with unwavering commitment.
John’s twelve children were the greatest source of joy in his life. He poured his heart and soul into fatherhood, offering each child unconditional love and unwavering support. He was a hands-on dad, deeply involved in their lives and willing to do anything for their well-being and happiness.
Beyond his family, John Rucker was known for his vibrant personality and his ability to light up any room. Described as the “life of the party,” he had a fun-loving spirit and a youthful energy. However, beneath the jovial exterior was a compassionate and insightful individual. John possessed a remarkable ability to listen and offer support, becoming a trusted confidant and counselor to many close friends. He was the person people turned to in times of need, offering a comforting shoulder and an empathetic ear.
John was predeceased by his daughter Amaria Covington. He is survived by his loving mother Gloria Rucker, father Derrick Mosley, devoted fiancé Aleasha, daughters Brekyah, Keairra, Kaylene, Armani, Jonai, and Carolyn, sons Javeon, John Jr, Jahase, Johan, Chevyion, and Breon, and granddaughter Journi. He also leaves behind sisters Benita, DaVonne, and Lydia, brothers Trimaine, Damion, and Derrick Jr (Meagan), special father Larry Davis, special niece Tyrisha, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
John Rucker’s life, though too short, was rich in love, laughter, and meaningful connections. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of family devotion, friendship, and generous spirit will continue to inspire and resonate with those whose lives he touched.
