In 2010, tennis icon John McEnroe, collaborating with SPORTIME Clubs, established the John Mcenroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) in his native New York City. SPORTIME Randall’s Island in Manhattan serves as the premier location for both the Academy and SPORTIME’s extensive network of twelve clubs. This flagship location embodies McEnroe’s vision of cultivating exceptional tennis talent within an urban environment, enabling young athletes to live at home, pursue their education, and engage in diverse extracurricular activities. Through proactive community engagement and outreach programs, the John McEnroe Tennis Academy actively seeks out and recruits highly motivated and talented young tennis players from the New York City metropolitan area and beyond, providing them with unparalleled training opportunities.
Expanding its reach in September 2012, the John McEnroe Tennis Academy broadened its presence to SPORTIME facilities in Westchester and Long Island. This expansion included SPORTIME Lake Isle, a state-of-the-art 8-court facility located in Eastchester, New York, in lower Westchester. SPORTIME Syosset in central Long Island, featuring 11 courts, became SPORTIME’s dedicated high-performance training center. Furthermore, SPORTIME Port Washington was added as another John McEnroe Tennis Academy location, reinforcing the commitment to providing top-tier coaching and a supportive training environment for the next generation of tennis prodigies striving to achieve their tennis aspirations.
Under the leadership of Johnny Mac and JMTA Managing Director Bennett Schlansky, a world-class team of directors has been assembled to guide the academy’s programs. This team includes Executive Director Patrick McEnroe, JMTA Performance Director Richard-John Mensing, Jr., JMTA Director of Mental Toughness and Performance, Dr. Dejan Stankovic, and Directors Michael Kossoff overseeing the Westchester and Long Island annexes of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy.
The dedicated professionals at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy collaborate closely to deliver a comprehensive training regimen designed to maximize the potential of serious junior players. This program is structured to empower JMTA athletes to fully develop their tennis abilities while simultaneously supporting their academic endeavors and fostering balanced, healthy lifestyles.
