In a devastating incident that occurred on December 17, 2021, a wrong-way collision on Interstate 49 in Louisiana resulted in the deaths of four individuals. Louisiana State Police have confirmed that the driver at fault, John Lundy, 54, of Georgia, was legally intoxicated at the time of the crash. Toxicology reports revealed that John Lundy’s blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
This tragic event claimed the lives of three siblings from Jeanerette, Louisiana: Lindy Rae Simmons, 20, Kamryn Simmons, 14, and Christopher Simmons, 16. John Lundy also died in the head-on collision.
The Fateful Night on I-49
The incident unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. near Hwy. 29 when John Lundy, driving a truck, entered I-49 going in the wrong direction. Tragically, his vehicle collided head-on with an SUV carrying the Simmons family.

Both John Lundy and Lindy Simmons were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Kamryn and Christopher Simmons, along with two other passengers in their vehicle, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Kamryn and Christopher succumbed to their injuries while hospitalized.
John Lundy’s Intoxication: A Preventable Tragedy

According to the Louisiana State Police report released on December 30, toxicology tests definitively showed that John Lundy was driving under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.

The Jeanerette community and beyond are mourning the loss of Lindy Rae, Kamryn, and Christopher Simmons. A joint funeral service to celebrate their lives was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Our Savior’s Church New Iberia Campus.
