CalvertHealth Medical Group is pleased to welcome John L. Cooper, MD, a highly skilled urologist dedicated to enhancing patient well-being. Dr. Cooper joins the team with a commitment to providing comprehensive urological care, addressing a wide range of conditions with a special focus on complex kidney stone management. His expertise extends to treating common urological issues such as enlarged prostate (BPH), erectile dysfunction (ED), low testosterone, and overactive bladder.
“Urology allows me to directly improve my patients’ lives every day, and that’s incredibly rewarding,” Dr. Cooper explains. He emphasizes patient education as a cornerstone of his practice, believing that informed patients are empowered to take an active role in their health journey. Prior to joining CalvertHealth, Dr. Cooper cultivated a thriving urology practice at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware, serving a diverse patient population.
Dr. Cooper’s patient care philosophy is rooted in respect and open communication. “My goal is for every patient to feel heard, respected, and confident that their concerns are thoroughly addressed during their clinic visit,” he states.
His impressive medical background includes earning his medical degree from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2015. He further honed his surgical skills during his urologic surgery residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center, completed in 2020. During his residency, Dr. Cooper trained with leading experts in urologic oncology and endourology, mastering the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr. Cooper is also actively involved in advancing the field of urology through research and scholarly contributions. He has authored publications in respected peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Urology, and presented his research findings at national and international conferences.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Cooper is an enthusiastic Baltimore Ravens fan and enjoys outdoor pursuits, particularly spending time with his wife and son at the beach.
