John Jones: Celebrating the Life of a Beloved Family Man

John Rip Jones, affectionately known as Rip, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2024, at the age of 53. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 19th, 1970, to Revenda Taylor and Johnny Brooks, John Jones was a cherished son, brother, devoted father, and proud grandfather. His warm presence and generous spirit touched countless lives, and he will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rip possessed a truly infectious personality, characterized by his impeccable style, a genuinely kind heart, and a quick, engaging wit. Above all else, John Jones valued his family, consistently prioritizing time spent with loved ones. Whether he was in New York, Pittsburgh, or Ohio, Rip made it a point to be surrounded by family, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.

Early Life and Education

A 1988 graduate of Mifflin High School, John Jones was admired for his smooth demeanor, unwavering loyalty to his friends, and a strong sense of self. His inherent drive and determination to provide for his family motivated him to establish his own cleaning company. In this venture, he was committed to offering opportunities to friends and family, aiming to ease their burdens and help them succeed.

A Man of Character and Heart

Beyond his professional endeavors, John Jones found joy in simple pleasures. He loved traveling with his family, engaging in a spirited game of Tonk, and immersing himself in National Geographic documentaries. Driving around the city while listening to music was another favorite pastime. However, his greatest joy came from moments spent connecting with his family, cherishing every opportunity to strengthen those bonds.

John Jones embraced many roles throughout his life, each reflecting the deep and meaningful relationships he cultivated. Whether he was known as “Hunnid Grand,” “Pawpaw,” “Favorite Cousin,” “Lil Ugly,” or simply “Dad,” he was a constant source of love, laughter, and support. His grandchildren—Aleia, Jaelyn, Amela, Amari Jr., and Josiah—were the absolute delight of his life, basking in the boundless love and warmth he so readily offered.

As a proud and supportive father, John Jones never missed an opportunity to celebrate his children. Amari, Ayana, and Kayla grew up enveloped in his unwavering love and encouragement, knowing he was always their steadfast champion. He instilled in them the paramount importance of family, resilience, and unconditional love—values that will guide them throughout their lives.

Legacy and Remembrance

John Jones is survived by his father, Johnny Brooks (Vanessa); his children: Amari (Chelsea), Kayla (Jamel), and Ayana; and his grandchildren: Aleia, Jaelyn, Amela, Amari Jr., and Josiah. He also leaves behind his sisters Jourdan and Swatasha; aunts Chequita “Quata”, Carolyn, Deidre, Debra, Ruth, and Margreta; uncles Joel and Miakle; his cherished cousin Trecha, along with a multitude of close friends and relatives who will forever hold his memory dear.

John Jones is now reunited with his mother, Revenda; his grandparents Lorraine and William Brooks, Clinton and Arlene Jones; great-grandmother Eva J. Johnson; great-aunt Mag; aunts Martha and Crystaline; uncles William and Elec; cousins Jeffrey “Noone” (who was like a brother to him), Lolita, Karen, and James “Spanky”.

To remember John Jones is to celebrate his remarkable resilience and unwavering strength. Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of his extraordinary life on Thursday, October 17th, at Diehl-Whitaker Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, immediately followed by a Memorial Service.

Following the service, a Repass will be held at VFW Post 9857, located at 2330 Stelzer Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that monetary donations be made to assist with funeral expenses, honoring John Jones’s generous spirit and ensuring his final arrangements are handled with care and dignity.
