John Hurley, a respected resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 11, 2020, at the age of 55 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Lancaster, John Hurley was known for his dedication to his work, his love for his family, and his kind-hearted nature. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many who knew him.
Born to the late Peggy (Souders) Armstrong and the late Hugh Armstrong, John Hurley was a true Lancaster native. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Leister) Hurley, who stood by his side. His memory will also be cherished by his brothers, Larry S. Hurley (and Donna), Robert Hurley (and Anne), and Matt Armstrong (and Stacy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to him.
Professionally, John Hurley was a skilled and hardworking entrepreneur. He was the proud owner and operator of JSH Home Improvements LLC, a testament to his drive and expertise in home renovation and improvement. Beyond his own business, he also served as a property manager for James Street Housing, further showcasing his versatility and commitment to his work. John Hurley was highly regarded in his field, known for his meticulous approach and the pride he took in every project he undertook. Prior to establishing his successful business, John Hurley dedicated 20 years of service to Exide Technologies, demonstrating his strong work ethic and loyalty.
Outside of his professional life, John Hurley had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. He found joy in riding his motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the open road. Water held a special allure for him, and he loved spending time boating, creating cherished memories on the water, especially with his nephew Lucas. For relaxation and escape, John Hurley often dreamed of and visited the beaches of Aruba, finding solace in the sun and sand. He was a devoted dog lover to his canine companions, Benji and Max, and enjoyed friendly competition playing pinochle with friends. A dedicated sports fan, John Hurley was a lifelong and enthusiastic supporter of the Dallas Cowboys.
John Hurley will be remembered as a man of integrity and strength, who approached everyone with kindness and generosity. His hardworking spirit, his dedication to his loved ones, and his genuine nature left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Lancaster community.
A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor John Hurley will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Guests are invited to gather starting at 2:00 pm, with a time of sharing and remembrance commencing at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in John Hurley‘s name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or through their website at stjude.org/donate.
