Dennis John Gosselin: Remembering a Burlington Businessman and Community Pillar

Dennis John Gosselin, a respected Burlington, Massachusetts businessman and the owner of Action Termite Control, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at the age of 57, after a brief illness. His passing marked the loss of a dedicated professional and a cherished community member, remembered for his expertise, reliability, and genuine connection with those he served.

Born in Winchester to Edward and Margaret Gosselin, Dennis was a lifelong resident of Burlington, residing in the family home where he grew up. He graduated from Shawsheen Technical High School in Billerica in 1980, specializing in welding. However, his career path took a different turn when he purchased Action Termite Control 32 years prior to his passing. Under his ownership, Action Termite Control became a trusted name in the Burlington area and beyond. Dennis built a strong and loyal customer base, extending his services to residential properties, commercial establishments, restaurants, schools, and various public buildings.

What set Dennis apart in his profession was not just his knowledge but his approach to customer service. He was known for his calm demeanor, always ready to assist his clients, whom he often treated as friends rather than just customers. His deep understanding of termite control issues made him a go-to expert in the region. Beyond his termite control business, Dennis also operated a snow plowing service during the winter months, further demonstrating his commitment to serving his community year-round. This dedication to his work and clients cemented his reputation as a dependable and hardworking individual within Burlington and the surrounding areas.

Outside of his professional life, Dennis had a passion for antique cars. Over the years, he owned several classic vehicles, including a Mustang and a Chevelle. His most prized possession was a 1973 Monte Carlo, a car with significant personal history as it was originally purchased by his father when Dennis was just six years old. He meticulously restored his Monte Carlo multiple times over 46 years and proudly showcased it at car shows, Fourth of July parades, and enjoyed leisurely drives around Burlington on summer days.

Sebago Lake held a special place in Dennis’s heart. He considered it his second home, where he indulged in his love for boating, snowmobiling, and tinkering. It was a place for creating lasting memories with family and friends. Dennis was also an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to New England teams. He was a loyal supporter of the Patriots through both winning and challenging seasons, and he also cheered for the Bruins and Red Sox.

In his personal life, Dennis shared a 20-year marriage with his wife, Julie (Tarpey), a relationship described as a testament to the adage that opposites attract, with Dennis being the more laid-back partner. He was immensely proud of his son, Dennis Richard Gosselin, supporting and encouraging him in all his endeavors, from high school wrestling and AAU Baseball to Rugby at Stonehill College. Dennis cherished his friendships, maintaining close bonds with childhood friends and extending his loyalty to many others throughout his life. The outpouring of support from friends at his bedside in his final weeks was a reflection of the deep connections he forged and the impact he had on those around him.

Dennis John Gosselin’s passing is deeply felt in Burlington. He is remembered not only as a skilled businessman and termite control expert but also as a kind, reliable, and integral part of the community. He is survived by his wife, Julie (Tarpey); his son, Dennis Richard Gosselin; and his siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
