Remembering Doug Gable: A Life Lived Fully in Lincoln, Nebraska

Doug Gable, born in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 18th, 1968, to Richard and Carolyn (Kroese) Gable, lived a life deeply rooted in family, community, and passion. From his early days in Waverly schools to building a life and business with his wife, Jami, Doug’s journey was marked by dedication and love.

Growing up and graduating from Waverly in 1987, Doug was an active member of the Waverly F.F.A., showcasing his early interests in agriculture and community involvement through participation in the junior Parli Pro Team, livestock judging, and sheep showing. These formative years instilled in him a strong work ethic and a connection to his rural roots. It was during his high school years that Doug’s life took a romantic turn when he met Jami at an arcade in Lincoln. This chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong partnership, culminating in marriage and the joy of raising their daughter, Mercedes. For Doug, family was paramount, the cornerstone around which he built his life.

Beyond his professional and family life, Doug was an enthusiastic hunter, skilled with both gun and bow. He proudly secured his trophy buck on the very acreage where they made their home, a testament to his patience and connection with nature. Adding to his competitive spirit and camaraderie, Doug shared a passion for pool with his brother. They honed their skills on a basement table, driven to surpass their father’s abilities and constantly challenge each other, creating lasting memories and a strong sibling bond.

Doug and Jami’s entrepreneurial spirit led them to establish Rock Creek Refuse. Their partnership extended beyond home life as they worked side-by-side in their business for many years. This enduring collaboration highlighted their strong bond and mutual respect, proving that their love could thrive amidst the challenges of business ownership.

Doug Gable is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Jami Gable, and their daughter, Mercedes Gable, alongside Michael Ratute of Colorado Springs, CO. He leaves behind his mother, Carolyn Gable, niece Brianna Gable and Nick Abbott, aunts Nancy Kroese, Linda Fox, both of Lincoln, and Pat Gable of Denver, CO. His extended family includes Uncle and Aunt Ken and Sue Kroese of Waverly, mother-in-law Joan Flynn, sister and brother-in-law Jodi and Chuck Rethmeier, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished extended family Bob, Kay, and Brooke Larsen, as well as a wide circle of dear friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gable, brother Darin Gable, Cousin Dave Kroese, and father-in-law Jerry Flynn. He is also predeceased by his Grandparents Herman and Opal Kroese, Jim and Rose Gable, step-grandmother Dorothy Gable, Aunt Dorianne Gable, and uncles Eldon and Bill Kroese. Doug Gable’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him, a testament to a life lived with dedication to family, passion for his hobbies, and a strong work ethic.
