John David Montgomery’s life journey began in the Pittsburgh area, and he often shared engaging stories of his childhood and early years before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, as a young adult. Even while in high school, his commitment to service led him to enlist in the Marines, where he served with distinction for four years. This dedication to learning and engagement continued throughout his life, well into his eighties. John David Montgomery was an avid reader, constantly exploring topics ranging from politics and sports to home and auto repair, and even the latest health trends. He found particular fascination in what he considered “miracle cures,” with apple cider vinegar holding a special place in his remedies.
Family was the cornerstone of John David Montgomery’s life. He cherished being surrounded by loved ones, both family and the dear friends who became like family. His playful nature and infectious humor were constants, even in challenging times. Nurses caring for him would often find themselves laughing at his gentle teasing and lighthearted jokes, always delivered with a wink and a warm smile. His loyalty extended to his passions, most notably his unwavering support for the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians). Win or lose, John David Montgomery stood by his team, embodying a spirit of true fandom. A proud American, he deeply valued civic duty, emphatically believing in the power of every vote and supporting candidates who shared his political ideals. A testament to his conviction, John David Montgomery, even with an oxygen tank and walker, made the determined trip to city hall just last month to vote in the primaries, proudly wearing his Marine ballcap. Ronald Reagan’s autographed picture remained a cherished display in his home, reflecting his political admiration.
