John Bolger, a longtime resident of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home on March 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. His life was marked by service to his country, dedication to his profession, and a deep love for his family and friends. John Bolger will be fondly remembered for his thoughtful nature and generous spirit.
Born and raised in Roxbury, John Bolger later moved to Pembroke where he built a life and raised his family. His commitment to service began early in life when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, bravely serving his nation during the Korean War. This period of service instilled in him a sense of discipline and dedication that would characterize his entire life. Following his military service, John Bolger pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology. This academic foundation paved the way for a successful and lengthy career at Boston Edison, where he worked as an Electrical Draftsman for over 40 years. His colleagues remember him as a diligent and meticulous professional, contributing significantly to the company over his four decades of service.
Beyond his professional achievements, John Bolger‘s true passion was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and was a devoted father to Janine Wilson of Quincy and James (Jay) Bolger of Pembroke. He was a supportive and loving former husband to Dorothy Nee Chamberlin of Sebastian, Florida. The role he treasured most was that of “Grampy” to his granddaughters Olivia, Sophia, and Juliet Bolger of Pembroke. He delighted in their accomplishments and brought joy to their lives. John Bolger also maintained close ties with lifelong friends, valuing those relationships deeply. He was known for his thoughtful personality, always considering the needs of others, and his generosity extended to organizations such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America, reflecting his continued support for his fellow veterans.
A faithful parishioner of Saint Joseph’s Parish in Quincy, John Bolger found strength and community in his faith. He was also an active member of the Boston Edison Retirement Association, enjoying the camaraderie of his former colleagues. The loss of John Bolger is deeply felt by his daughter Janine, his son James (Jay), his former wife Dorothy, his beloved granddaughters, and his many friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Leblanc of Waltham, MA, and is survived by numerous loving friends who will cherish his memory.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visiting hours on Sunday from 1-5 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:45 AM on Monday, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Quincy at 11:30 AM. Burial will take place at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:15 PM, where John Bolger will be laid to rest with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in memory of John Bolger be made to St. Joseph Church, 556 Washington Street, Quincy, MA 02169, continuing his legacy of generosity and faith.
