St. John’s University Scholarship Opportunities

St. John’s University provides numerous scholarship opportunities for incoming first-year and transfer students. These awards are designed to support students from diverse backgrounds and recognize academic achievement, service, and specific affiliations. Below is an overview of the scholarships available for the Fall 2025 academic year.

Catholic High School Scholarship

Recognizing the value of Catholic education, St. John’s University offers the Catholic High School Scholarship. This scholarship, created based on a recommendation from the Institute for Catholic Schools (ICS) Advisory Board, awards $3,000 annually, potentially totaling $12,000 over four years of undergraduate study. It is automatically granted to first-year students graduating from a Catholic high school and enrolling at St. John’s in Fall 2025. College Advantage Award

Students who have participated in the College Advantage program and subsequently enroll at St. John’s University in the semester following their high school graduation are eligible for the College Advantage Award. This award provides $3,000 per year for up to four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate study at St. John’s University. Further details about the College Advantage Program can be found here.

Fall 2025 Engagement Grant

St. John’s University offers a one-time Engagement Grant to new students who actively engage with the university. First-year and transfer students who attend the St. John’s University Accepted Student Day in April 2025 will receive a one-time $250 tuition grant for the 2025 academic year.

Additionally, students can earn another one-time $250 tuition grant by attending one of the qualifying events listed below between June 1, 2024, and May 1, 2025:

Spring 2025:

  • Virtual Event
  • Class Visit
  • Department Tour
  • Hometown Celebration
  • Stormin’ Loud

Students can receive a maximum of $500 in Engagement Grant funding for the 2025 academic year. Advance registration for these events is encouraged and available at stjohns.edu/Visit.

Fall 2025 First-Year Future Johnnie Award

The Future Johnnie Award is designed to reward early application and enrollment for first-year students. New first-year students who submit their undergraduate admission application and all required documents by December 1, 2024, and submit their enrollment deposit by April 1, 2025, will receive a one-time $500 award. This award will be credited to their St. John’s University StormCard in two installments of $250 at the start of each term in the 2025 academic year, upon meeting all enrollment requirements and being registered as a paid student. The funds can be used for books at the St. John’s University Bookstore. Please note that students can only receive one Future Johnnie Award, and any unspent balance will not be carried over to future terms.

Fall 2025 New Transfer Student Future Johnnie Award

Transfer students are also recognized for early application and enrollment through the New Transfer Student Future Johnnie Award. New transfer students who complete their undergraduate admission application and submit all necessary credentials by February 1, 2025, and submit their enrollment deposit by May 1, 2025, will be granted a one-time $500 award. Similar to the first-year award, this will be credited to their St. John’s University StormCard as two $250 credits at the beginning of each term in the 2025 academic year, given they fulfill all enrollment requirements and are marked as paid. This credit is applicable for books at the St. John’s University Bookstore. Like the first-year award, students are eligible for only one Future Johnnie Award, and unused funds cannot be rolled over.

Service Scholarships

St. John’s University values service to the community and nation, offering Service Scholarships to recognize the families of police officers, firefighters, and military service members.

Child of a Police Officer Service Award*

St. John’s University offers the Child of a Police Officer Service Award, providing $2,000 per year for up to four years for new first-year students, or up to three years for transfer students. This award is for dependent children of police officers in the United States (full-time active service, retired, or killed in the line of duty) who are current high school seniors or new transfer students enrolling at St. John’s in Fall 2025. Eligibility is based on the parent’s occupation indicated on the Undergraduate Admission application for Fall 2025, which must be submitted by January 31, 2025, to be considered for this award.

Child of Firefighter Service Award*

The Child of Firefighter Service Award mirrors the Police Officer award, offering $2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study to the children of firefighters in the United States. Eligible students must be dependent children of fire department members (full-time active service, retired, or killed in the line of duty) and current high school seniors planning to enroll at St. John’s in Fall 2025. Eligibility is determined by the parent’s occupation on the Fall 2025 Undergraduate Admission application, with a submission deadline of January 31, 2025.

Child of Military Service-Members Award*

St. John’s University also provides the Child of Military Service-Members Award, granting $2,000 per year for up to four years for first-year students and up to three years for transfer students. This is available to dependent children of U.S. Military service members (full-time active service, veteran, or killed in the line of duty) who are current high school seniors or new transfer students enrolling in Fall 2025. Parent occupation as stated on the Undergraduate Admission application for Fall 2025 will determine eligibility. The application deadline for consideration is January 31, 2025.

*These service awards were established by St. John’s University to honor the dedicated service of men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces, Police Departments, and Fire Departments. Students are limited to one service award, and the University may request proof of eligibility. Service awards are applicable to domestic students only.

Ozanam Scholars Program

The Ozanam Scholars Program offers a distinctive and enriching learning experience to a select group of students. This program connects small student cohorts with dedicated faculty to address real-world challenges in local, national, and international communities. Ozanam Scholars can receive scholarships up to $10,000 per year, renewable annually for the four-year program.

Catholic Scholars Program

The Catholic Scholars Program is a four-year developmental program focused on translating faith into action. Freshmen applicants selected for this scholarship will receive a grant of $5,000 per year for four years of study. Catholic Scholars commit to faith-based leadership training, service, prayer, and developing a deeper understanding of leadership within the Catholic tradition. Please note: Students entering religious discernment, seminary, or religious community formation programs are ineligible for the Catholic Scholars Program at St. John’s University.

Catholic Student Scholarship

St. John’s University is committed to developing ethical Catholic leaders. The Catholic Student Scholarship offers a limited number of awards (based on availability) to college-bound Catholic students, regardless of their high school background, including those from non-Catholic institutions.

The Notre Dame College Alumnae Association Sister Helen Flynn Endowed Scholarship

Honoring the Staten Island legacy, the Sister Helen Flynn-Notre Dame College Alumnae Association Scholarship requires applicants to be sponsored by an alumna/alumnus who received a 4-year degree from Notre Dame College (graduating classes between 1933-1971) or St. John’s University Staten Island Campus (graduating classes between 1972-2023) or Queens Campus (graduating class of 2024). This scholarship offers a limited number of awards (subject to availability) to first-year Fall 2025 undergraduate applicants.

Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (GSRM) Scholarships

The Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (GSRM) provides a limited number of scholarships for qualified, admitted students for the Fall 2025 term. To apply for these awards, please review the application form and submit all required materials. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by April 1, and recipients will be notified by GSRM representatives via email.

Scholarship Details

Renewal of new first-year student scholarships for up to four years of continuous full-time undergraduate study at St. John’s University is contingent upon maintaining the academic requirements outlined in the Undergraduate Bulletin. Scholarships do not apply to intersession, winter session, post-session, or summer sessions.

For the six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program, Academic Scholarships for students are offered for the first four years of the program.

St. John’s University reserves the right to adjust any University grant or scholarship if a student receives non-university aid. Furthermore, the total amount of external grants and scholarships combined with St. John’s financial aid cannot exceed the total cost of tuition. Scholarship programs are governed by the policies of the University’s Office of Student Financial Services and relevant regulatory agencies.

If a student receives a named scholarship, it may not alter the total aid amount awarded. If selected for an endowed/donor-funded scholarship, these funds may replace existing institutional scholarships or grants. The Office of Student Financial Services will notify students of any changes.
