Weber State Wildcats Basketball: High-Flying Season Fueled by John Watson Chevrolet

The Weber State Wildcats men’s basketball team is once again electrifying fans this season, and John Watson Chevrolet is proud to be a key supporter. Entering their January 10th game against Southern Utah, the Wildcats boast an impressive 9-3 record, mirroring last year’s success with a 4-0 start in Big Sky Conference play. This consistent dominance in the Big Sky is building a strong legacy for the program.

Weber State has demonstrated remarkable momentum, securing victory in eight of their last nine contests. This impressive run commenced with a hard-fought 62-61 away win against Dayton on November 28th, showcasing the team’s resilience and ability to win under pressure. Following this, the Wildcats continued their winning streak at home, overcoming Utah Valley and UC Irvine, before facing a setback against in-state rival BYU in a highly anticipated matchup.

The Wildcats launched their Big Sky Conference campaign with decisive road wins against Eastern Washington and Portland State, signaling their intent to compete for the conference title. A historic moment was achieved on December 29th with a staggering 65-point victory over the University of the Southwest. This game not only highlighted the team’s offensive firepower but also marked the largest victory margin in the history of Weber State basketball, a testament to the program’s growth and potential. Returning to their home court to start 2013, the Wildcats maintained their dominant form with commanding victories against Northern Colorado and North Dakota, solidifying their position at the top of the conference standings.

This season’s Wildcats are not just winning; they are statistically among the nation’s elite. The team currently ranks in the top 10 nationally in four key statistical categories, demonstrating their balanced excellence on both offense and defense. They hold the third spot in the country for three-point field goal percentage, showcasing their sharpshooting prowess. Defensively, they are equally impressive, ranking fifth nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense, making it incredibly difficult for opponents to score from beyond the arc. Their overall field goal percentage is sixth best in the nation, a testament to their efficient offense. Furthermore, their scoring margin ranks seventh nationally, highlighting their ability to consistently outscore opponents. Within the Big Sky Conference, Weber State’s dominance is even more pronounced, leading in an impressive 11 statistical categories, underscoring their comprehensive team strength.

The Wildcats’ success this season is a result of collective effort, with a remarkable seven players averaging at least seven points per game. This balanced scoring distribution makes them a challenging team to defend, as multiple players can step up offensively. Individual accolades have also followed, with four Wildcats – Kyle Tresnak, Davion Berry, Jordan Richardson, and Scott Bamforth – each earning Big Sky Player of the Week honors this season. This recognition highlights the individual talent within the team and the depth of their roster.
