John “JT” Bernard Thomas, a beloved resident of Lewis Center, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 6th, at the age of 55. To all who had the privilege of knowing him, John Thomas was more than just a man; he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished son and brother, a fun-loving uncle, and a loyal friend. His life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his family and the joy he found in simple connections with those around him.
Born and raised in the Tri-Valley area of Ohio, John Thomas graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1987. His passion for music was evident early on as a proud member of the drumline in the Scotties Marching Band, where he contributed his rhythm and energy. This love for music continued beyond his school years as John Thomas showcased his drumming talents with the band Whiteline, entertaining audiences throughout Coshocton and Zainesville, leaving a lasting impression on the local music scene.
Professionally, John Thomas dedicated several years to Longaberger, before transitioning to a role at the OSU James Cancer Hospital. For over a decade, he served as a Unit Coordinator, a position where he not only excelled professionally but also marked a significant personal milestone – meeting his wife, Amy. Later in his career, John Thomas found a fulfilling role as a food service worker at Olentangy High School. This wasn’t just a job for John; it was an opportunity to connect with the students. He genuinely enjoyed his daily interactions, often engaging in friendly chats with them during food service, becoming a familiar and friendly face in their day. His enthusiasm extended beyond the cafeteria, as he and his family were regular attendees at Olentangy High School football and basketball games, where he passionately cheered for the teams, often proudly wearing the numbers of his favorite players.
Beyond his professional and social engagements, John Thomas had a rich personal life filled with hobbies and passions. His “metal room,” or man cave, was a sanctuary where he explored his diverse taste in music. From classic rock anthems to the smooth sounds of jazz, the intricate compositions of classical music, and other eclectic genres, his vinyl collection was a source of great pride and enjoyment. A dedicated sports enthusiast, John Thomas passionately followed the Buckeyes, Browns, and Cavs, and kept up with his favorite PGA players, always ready to discuss the latest games and tournaments. Furthermore, John Thomas possessed exceptional culinary skills. Cooking was more than just a hobby; it was an expression of his love and care. He delighted in preparing a wide array of delicious dishes for his family and friends, always eager to share his culinary creations.
Above all else, John Thomas lived a life dedicated to serving his family and friends. His legacy is etched in the memories of those who knew him through his acts of kindness, his infectious sense of humor, his fantastic cooking, and, most importantly, his unwavering love for his wife, Amy, and his children, Kiana, Aiden, and Addison. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for the warmth and love he brought into the world.
John Thomas was predeceased by his grandparents, Bernard and Marion Smith, and his father-in-law, Keith Gleich. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Amy (Gleich); his children, Kiana Saylor (28), Aiden (13), and Addison (13); his parents, Bruce and Linda Thomas; his sister, Penny Gregorich; his mother-in-law, Jenny Gleich; his brothers-in-law, Danny (Jamie) and David (Nicky) Gleich; and his nephew and nieces, Shelby Gregorich, Michael (Nolan), Kaitlynn, Jesse, and Ben Gleich.
