A product of the SUNY system, with degrees from Binghamton and Oswego, John Mannion brought nearly three decades of practical experience to the New York State Senate, drawn from his career as a public school teacher. For twenty-one years, he shaped young minds as an Advanced Placement Biology and Chemistry teacher within the West Genesee School District in Onondaga County. His dedication to education extended beyond the classroom, as he served as President of the West Genesee Teachers’ Association, advocating for educators and negotiating labor contracts on their behalf.
Senator Mannion’s engagement with his community spans decades. Alongside his professional commitments, John Mannion volunteered extensively with local organizations and dedicated his time to coaching and refereeing youth soccer, basketball, and baseball. His dedication to accountability led him to mandate a comprehensive report from the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) regarding the agency’s response to the pandemic. Senator Mannion remains actively engaged in addressing critical workforce and housing shortages affecting this community.

He has successfully secured crucial funding to implement cutting-edge technology aimed at combating Harmful Algae Blooms, ensuring long-term safeguards for the drinking water supply for hundreds of thousands of Central New Yorkers. Furthermore, John Mannion is a staunch supporter of safe and clean nuclear power, recognizing its vital role in maintaining affordable energy costs for consumers as New York State progresses towards its ambitious climate objectives.

This pivotal legislation is widely recognized as a key factor in Micron’s groundbreaking decision to invest $100 billion in constructing a state-of-the-art Chip Fab within Senator Mannion’s District in Clay, NY, promising significant job creation and regional prosperity.
Upholding his commitment to transparent and accountable governance, Senator Mannion authored legislation to revitalize the Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force. He transformed this previously inactive body by ensuring full membership and tasking it with the crucial responsibility of delivering actionable flood mitigation strategies within a twelve-month timeframe.
Senator John Mannion proudly represents the 50th Senate District, a diverse region encompassing a significant portion of Central New York. His district includes the towns of Camillus, Cicero, Clay, DeWitt, Geddes, Manlius, and Salina in Onondaga County, as well as the cities of Oswego and Fulton, and the towns of Constantia, Granby, Hannibal, Hastings, Minetto, Oswego, Palermo, Schroeppel, Scriba, and West Monroe in Oswego County. The district also encompasses numerous villages, including Camillus, Central Square, Cleveland, East Syracuse, Fayetteville, Hannibal, Liverpool, Manlius, Minoa, North Syracuse, Phoenix, and Solvay.
