Meet John E. Deaton: Founder and Managing Partner
John E. Deaton is the heart of the Deaton Law Firm. As the founder and managing partner, John brings a wealth of experience and a personal commitment to every case. Establishing the Deaton Law Firm in 2006 was the culmination of years spent honing his skills and developing a deep understanding of complex litigation.
Before opening his own firm, John worked at a prominent national plaintiffs’ firm where he specialized in asbestos litigation, alongside cases involving products liability, toxic torts, and personal injury. During this time, he distinguished himself as a lead trial attorney, representing clients in New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. He built a strong reputation as a formidable yet ethical advocate in the courtroom, going head-to-head with national defense lawyers and large corporations.
John’s dedication to justice extends beyond his civilian legal career. While studying law, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1994. He served as both a federal prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney during seven years of active duty. His military service saw him try numerous jury trials, earning him the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and achieving the rank of Major.
His legal education at the New England School of Law, where he graduated Cum Laude in 1995, further solidified his expertise. John’s academic achievements include the American Jurisprudence Award for Clinical Evidence and selection to the National Mock Trial Team. He also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University in 1989, setting a strong foundation for his legal career.
