John “JT” Bernard Thomas, a resident of Lewis Center, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 6, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and kindness. At 55 years old, John was known to all who encountered him as a loving and devoted husband, a cherished father, a beloved son and brother, a fun-loving uncle, and a true friend. His life was centered around his family, particularly his wife Amy and their three children, Kiana (Katie), Aiden, and Addison. They were the very essence of his world, and he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to their happiness and well-being.
Growing up in the Tri-Valley area of Ohio, John’s roots were firmly planted in his community. He proudly graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1987, where he showcased his musical talents as a member of the drumline in the Scotties Marching Band. His passion for music continued after high school as he played drums in the band Whiteline, entertaining audiences throughout Coshocton and Zanesville.
John’s professional life was diverse and reflected his strong work ethic and amiable personality. He spent several years contributing to Longaberger before transitioning to the OSU James Cancer Hospital. For over a decade, he served as a Unit Coordinator, a role where he not only excelled professionally but also met his wife, Amy. His most recent role as a food service worker at Olentangy High School brought him immense joy. John genuinely adored the students, taking pleasure in their daily interactions and conversations in the food line. His enthusiasm for the Olentangy High School community extended beyond his work; he was a regular attendee at football and basketball games, passionately cheering for the teams alongside his family, often sporting the numbers of his favorite players.
Beyond his professional and family life, John had a vibrant array of hobbies and interests. His “metal room,” affectionately known as his man cave, was his sanctuary. Here, he immersed himself in an eclectic mix of music, spanning from classic rock and jazz to classical pieces and various other genres. He took great pride in his extensive vinyl collection, often sharing his musical discoveries with friends and family. John was also an avid sports enthusiast, wholeheartedly supporting the Buckeyes, Browns, Cavs, and his favorite PGA players. Furthermore, he possessed remarkable culinary skills, delighting his loved ones with an assortment of delicious dishes he masterfully crafted. Serving his family and friends was at the heart of John’s character. He will be forever remembered for his inherent kindness, his infectious sense of humor, his fantastic culinary creations, and, above all, his unwavering love for his wife and children.
John was predeceased by his grandparents, Bernard and Marion Smith, and his father-in-law, Keith Gleich. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Amy (Gleich), his children Kiana Saylor (28), Aiden (13), and Addison (13), his parents Bruce and Linda Thomas, his sister Penny Gregorich, his mother-in-law Jenny Gleich, his brothers-in-law Danny (Jamie) and David (Nicky) Gleich, and his nephew and nieces Shelby Gregorich, Michael (Nolan), Kaitlynn, Jesse, and Ben Gleich.
