John J. Preston, Sr., a resident of Milmont Park, PA, peacefully passed away on November 26, 2023, at the age of 64, surrounded by his loving family. Born into life and love, John was the son of the late Catherine Daniels Kissling. His life was marked by dedication to his family, his career, and his community.
Growing up in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, John J. Preston attended St. Louis Elementary School and graduated from Yeadon High School in 1977. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the Florida Institute of Technology, setting the stage for a successful career in labor leadership.
John J. Preston dedicated many years of his professional life to the Teamsters Local 929. Starting in 2010, he served as the Secretary/Treasurer, a position he held with distinction. Prior to this, from 2010 to 2013, he was an Organizer for Local 929. His commitment to the Teamsters spanned 37 years, with 30 years as a member of Local 929. A significant achievement in his career was his instrumental role in negotiating the first national labor contract for the American Red Cross. His expertise and dedication continued as he served on both the Red Cross National Grievance Committee and the Red Cross National Negotiating Committee, advocating for fair labor practices and worker rights.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John J. Preston was a devoted family man. He shared 23 years of loving marriage with his wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Bradley Preston. He was a proud and loving father to John J. Preston, Jr., Thomas Preston (Kristen), and Adeline “Addy” Preston. His joy expanded to include his grandchildren, Aoife Preston and John Preston, III. He is survived by his brothers, Jim Preston (Suzanne) and Jerry Preston (Diane), and was the son-in-law of Robert and Bert Culbertson Bradley. His extended family included sisters-in-law Lynne Bennett and Mary Koncir (Pat Hennessy), along with eight nephews, a niece, and numerous cherished cousins.
In his personal time, John J. Preston enjoyed saltwater fishing, finding relaxation and joy by the sea. He was also a passionate fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, sharing in the triumphs and tribulations of his favorite team.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of John J. Preston will be held at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, located at 208 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park, PA, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Prior to the Mass, relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at the church from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM. The burial service will be held privately.
In remembrance of John J. Preston, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to The Glaucoma Foundation (https://glaucomafoundation.org/). Donations in his name would be a meaningful way to honor his memory and support a cause close to his heart.
The Funeral Mass for John J. Preston will be livestreamed on our Funeral Home’s Facebook Page, allowing those who cannot attend in person to participate in the service.
John J. Preston will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of service, dedication, and love will forever be remembered.
