John David Selin, affectionately known as Babe, Dave, Davey, Davis, Dad, and Pa, passed away peacefully at his home in Herriman, Utah, on August 17, 2024. Born on September 21, 1976, in Dearborn, Michigan, to John Randall Selin and Margo Selin, John David, or Dave as many knew him, leaves behind a legacy of passion, love, and unforgettable moments.
Dave’s professional life was deeply rooted in the automotive industry. For over 18 years, he dedicated his expertise and skills as a diesel mechanic at Pete’s Diesel Repair in Salt Lake City. His passion for his work was evident to all who knew him, making him a respected and valued member of the team.
Beyond his career, John David Selin was a devoted family man. His wife of 24 years, Melissa, his daughter, Morgan, and his stepsons, Johnny and Steven, were the cornerstones of his life. His heart overflowed with love for his grandchildren, Kaidence, Baylee, and Maddux, who brought immense joy to his days. Family and friends were always at the center of Dave’s world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Dave was also known for his zest for life and his many talents. He was a legendary grill master, particularly famous for his wings, which were always in high demand at gatherings. Whether it was dominating on the pickleball and golf courses or captivating audiences with his unique karaoke performances – eyes closed, accompanied by his signature dance moves – Dave knew how to light up any room.
John David Selin is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; his parents, John Randall (Liz) and Margo; his siblings, Sean, Erik (Cheryl), Katie, Daniel, and Michael; his stepsons, Johnny and Steven (Vivian); his daughter, Morgan; and his grandmothers, Phyllis and LaVon. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Earl Rollins Francis and Henry Don Selin.
A celebration of John David’s remarkable life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the home of Jason and Will Pearce, located at 8117 Van Buren Street, Midvale, Utah, 84047. In honor of Dave, casual attire is requested. Join us to remember and celebrate the life of John David Selin – a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.
