John Cena Announces Retirement from WWE, Farewell Tour Set for 2025

John Cena, a titan in the world of professional wrestling and one of WWE’s most beloved figures, has announced his retirement from in-ring competition. The 47-year-old made the revelation during a surprise appearance at WWE’s Money in the Bank event in Toronto, signaling the start of his farewell to the WWE Universe.

Cena detailed his upcoming schedule, mentioning appearances at key WWE events such as Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41. His intention is to continue wrestling until the end of 2025, with plans to participate in 30 to 40 events during his farewell tour. “Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” Cena stated, marking a definitive end to his illustrious wrestling career.

For the past half-decade, Cena has transitioned into a part-time role with WWE, balancing his wrestling commitments with a burgeoning career in Hollywood. He has garnered attention for his role as The Peacemaker in “Suicide Squad” (2021) and his appearance in “Fast X,” showcasing his versatility beyond the wrestling ring.

Since his explosive debut in 2002, where he famously challenged Kurt Angle, John Cena has been a cornerstone of WWE programming. His achievements include a record-equaling 16 WWE Championship reigns and headlining WrestleMania on five separate occasions. His previous WrestleMania main events were in 2012 and 2013, both against The Rock. Cena’s last match was a loss to Solo Sikoa in November, and he last appeared at WrestleMania 40, once again in a confrontation with The Rock.

Addressing the timing of his retirement, Cena explained, “I approached the WWE with this idea and they kind of initiated the talks that this would be a great span of time if we were ever going to do it.” Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, Cena is also recognized for his extensive philanthropic work, having granted over 650 wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His farewell tour has been aptly named “The Last Time is Now John Cena Farewell Tour,” echoing his iconic theme song and celebrating his final chapter in WWE.
