John Flanagan: From Sydney Copywriter to Ranger’s Apprentice Sensation

John Flanagan, an acclaimed author, spent his formative years in Sydney, Australia, harboring aspirations of becoming a writer. Interestingly, it was a rather critical poem about a senior executive at his workplace that inadvertently unveiled his writing talent. Fortuitously, a company director shared Flanagan’s low opinion of the executive and offered him training in the art of copywriting.

Following two decades crafting advertising copy, John Flanagan partnered with a friend to create the television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which enjoyed an eight-year run on air.

However, John Flanagan’s most significant literary journey began when he started writing Ranger’s Apprentice for his son, Michael, a series he diligently continues to expand.

Currently residing in a Manly suburb in Australia with his wife, John Flanagan’s family includes their son, two adult daughters, and four grandsons.
