Remembering John “Freddy” Fredericks: A Celebration of Life

John M. “Freddy” Fredericks, a beloved lifelong resident of Lititz and Warwick High School class of 1982 graduate, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 18th, 2024. His sudden departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will be cherished through the many lives he touched.

Freddy, as he was affectionately known, possessed remarkable culinary talents. Cooking was more than just a skill for John Fredericks; it was his love language. He had an extraordinary ability to bring people together through food, whether preparing a comforting family meal or hosting a grand feast for friends. His pride in his cooking was evident in every dish, often incorporating ingredients sourced from his hunting expeditions, creating meals that were not only delicious but also deeply personal. These culinary creations are fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of sharing his table.

Beyond the kitchen, John Fredericks was an avid outdoorsman. He found solace and tranquility in the natural world, spending countless hours immersed in the woods. Hunting was not just a hobby for John; it was a passion that connected him to nature’s rhythms and provided him with peace. He valued the quiet moments and the excitement of the hunt, a knowledge and appreciation for the outdoors that he enthusiastically passed down to his children. This legacy of outdoor passion will continue to live on through them.

John was the son of the late Morris Frederick and Sue (Myers) Kotler. He is survived by his loving family: his son Jonathan Frederick, his daughter Dava Frederick, and his significant other Amy Kautz of Lititz. He is also remembered by his sister Kathy Steffy and her husband Mike, his nieces Whitney Sickler and Brooke Billow, and four great-nephews. Further family includes his stepmother Lyn Frederick and stepsister Laura Kuty. John was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first grandchild in March, a joy that will now be celebrated in his memory.

Above all else, John Fredericks was a devoted father who was immensely proud of Jonathan and Dava. His love for his children was the cornerstone of his life. John’s contagious smile, the joy he found in cooking and sharing meals, his adventurous spirit in the outdoors, and his signature phrase “check it” are all indelible parts of his legacy. These memories will continue to bring smiles and warmth to those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Lititz American Legion, located at 109 N. Broad St., Lititz, PA 17543. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and honoring John “Freddy” Fredericks.
