John F. Holland, a cherished resident of North Andover, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the age of 58. His sudden departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Born on September 20, 1965, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, John was the beloved son of Francis Holland and the late Belvia (Dixon) Holland. He grew up in a close-knit family and was known for his kind heart and unwavering loyalty. John’s warm personality extended beyond his family to a wide circle of friends, all of whom will deeply miss his presence. He was the kind of son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend that everyone cherished.
John truly embraced life, finding joy in simple pleasures and valuing the connections he made with others. His world revolved around his friends and family, and he treasured those relationships above all else. Those who knew John will fondly remember his infectious laugh, his bright, welcoming smile, and his vibrant personality that could light up any room. He was an active and dedicated member of the American Legion in Middleton, where he enjoyed camaraderie and community involvement. When the weather permitted, John could often be found exploring mountain trails, indulging his passion for hiking and spending countless happy hours soaking up the sun and enjoying the tranquility of the beach.
Professionally, John was a highly skilled and dedicated excavator operator, a proud member of Local 4 Union for over 25 years. He approached his work with diligence and expertise, contributing to significant projects throughout the Boston area. Among his proudest accomplishments were his contributions to major demolitions in the city of Boston, most notably the demolition of the iconic old Boston Garden. His career was a testament to his work ethic and his commitment to his craft. John received his education from Northeast Metro Tech in Wakefield, MA, graduating with the class of 1984, where he laid the foundation for his successful career.
John is survived by his loving brother Philip Holland and his wife Kathryn, his brother Ed Holland, and Joe Rizzo, the surviving husband of his late sister Marie Rizzo. His memory will also be cherished by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a vast network of friends who were like family to him.
Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate John’s life and share cherished memories during visitation hours on Wednesday, January 24th, from 4-8pm at the Barile Family Funeral Home, located at 482 Main Street (RT 28), STONEHAM. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home at 8pm to conclude the evening. The funeral home offers parking attendants and elevator access for convenience.
