John Adam Purland: Remembering a Dedicated Life in Shreveport, Louisiana

John “Adam” Purland, a beloved resident of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, passed away on February 2, 2024, at the age of 37. Born John Adam Purland on October 26, 1986, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to John and Kim Purland, Adam’s life was marked by dedication to his family, his career, and his community. His passing is deeply felt by all who knew him.

Adam’s life will be celebrated during a visitation on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, located at 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Funeral services honoring his life will take place on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Pastor Mike Loftin will officiate the service, and Adam will be laid to rest at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Road in Shreveport.

Throughout his life, John Adam Purland was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. A 2004 graduate of Southwood High School, Adam began his career with CenterPoint Energy at the young age of 18. He dedicated the next 20 years of his life to the gas industry, becoming highly knowledgeable and respected in his field. Adam earned numerous certifications and continuing education credits, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to professional excellence in the oil and gas sector.

Family was at the heart of John Adam Purland’s life. He married his high school sweetheart, Heather, in 2010. Their loving partnership of 14 years was blessed with three children: Riley, Talan, and Wyatt. Adam cherished his children, who were the “light of his eyes” and whom he considered his greatest legacy. He was a devoted father, always present and supportive in their lives.

Beyond his professional and family life, Adam was a vibrant and engaging individual. He was a founding member of the MADD AT’EM cornhole group, forging deep and lasting friendships that became like family. John Adam was a familiar and welcome presence around town, often seen with cornhole bags, a beer, and his signature contagious smile. Friday nights in his back shop with his closest friends were a cherished tradition, highlighting the importance of community and camaraderie in his life.

In recent times, John Adam Purland demonstrated incredible resilience and courage. For 654 days, spanning nearly 22 months, Adam fought a courageous battle. Even during the most challenging times, he maintained his dignity, grace, and that ever-present smile. His strength and positive attitude touched the lives of many throughout his journey.

Adam was preceded in death by his mother, Kim Purland, and his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife, Heather Purland; his children, Riley, Talan, and Wyatt Purland; his father, John Purland (Janell); his sister, Krystal Jones (BJ); and a large extended family including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind countless friends who were deeply impacted by his life.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Burn Teams, Surgeons, and Nurses who provided care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to “Camp I’m Still Me” in honor of Adam Purland, continuing his legacy of touching lives and making a positive impact.

Serving as pallbearers will be BJ Jones, Dustin Sirman, Bill Free, Johnny Free, Judson Porter, Mark Pruett, Matt Bradford, and Lane Stewart. Talan and Wyatt Purland, along with his nephews, will serve as honorary pallbearers, a testament to the enduring love and respect he held within his family. John Adam Purland’s memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew him.
