John A. Torain Holt, affectionately known as “Skeeter,” graced this world on June 13, 1968, in Baltimore, Maryland, and peacefully departed on Friday, March 18, 2022. Born to Lessie Torain and John H. Holt, John Holt was the cherished eldest son and a beacon of warmth to all who knew him.
John Holt’s educational journey began in the Baltimore City Public Schools, culminating in a diploma from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Maryland. Driven by passion, he furthered his studies at the Baltimore International College of Culinary Arts, showcasing his diverse talents and commitment to excellence. Athleticism was a significant part of John Holt’s early life, as he enthusiastically played basketball and football from the age of seven at Madison Square Elementary School through his high school years. In 1994, John Holt married Evangeline (Chick), embracing the esteemed role of “Father” above all other titles he held.
Described as pleasant, loving, and intelligent, John Holt epitomized the essence of a “family man.” He was the cornerstone of his family, always ready to lend a hand and offer unwavering support. John Holt was admired for his kind heart, playful humor, and distinctive style, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His ability to brighten any room with his infectious smile and charm will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched.
John Holt now joins his father, John H. Holt, brother Jonny Sawyer, son Jaquan Holt, and best friend Kenny Brown in eternal peace. His legacy continues through his loving wife, Evangeline Brown-Holt; his mother, Lessie Torain; his significant partner, Danielle (Duck) Buckner; his brothers, Jermaine and Jamar Holt; sister-in-law, Benita Brown; his sons, Antoine, John, and Jabarr; his daughters, Taneka, Taneisha, Skai, and Journe’i; son-in-law, Patrick; and nine grandchildren: Antonio, Patrick, Aaniyah, Porter, Ayden, John Jr., Journey, Jhai, and Amare. He is also survived by his aunts Bernadette, Diane, Julia, and Tangie; uncles Jeffrey, Connie, Vincent, and Chris, along with a multitude of relatives and friends who will forever cherish the memory of John Holt.
