Tommy Johns Underwear Review: Are They Really Worth the Hype? – An Honest Look

For years, men have debated whether upgrading to premium underwear is truly worth the investment. I remember back in high school, the allure of branded boxers from high-end clothing stores was strong, but the price tags always seemed exorbitant. Surely, there were better ways to spend my money, right? Like many, I settled for the comfortable middle ground of affordable boxer briefs, opting for brands like Hanes to avoid the discomfort of truly cheap options.

Underwear has always been a curious category. The vast range of styles, materials, and price points, especially in women’s lingerie, often seems disconnected from practical value. Why spend a fortune on something that’s often the first thing to come off? The idea of paying upwards of $30 for a single pair of men’s underwear when you can get a multi-pack of perfectly serviceable options for the same price seems almost absurd.

Then, Tommy John entered the scene. They reached out and offered me a pair of their Go Anywhere boxers to test and review honestly. This isn’t a sponsored post in the traditional sense, but I did receive a pair of their trunks and a t-shirt in exchange for my unbiased feedback. So, let’s dive into this honest Tommy Johns Underwear review.

The underwear I received was a pair of hunter green trunks from their Go Anywhere™ line. Interestingly, these are positioned as a more budget-friendly option compared to their standard line. The Go Anywhere collection is designed for athletic performance and everyday comfort, featuring 4-way stretch and moisture-wicking fabric. Alongside the trunks, I also received a “Second Skin Moroccan Tee” in navy.

The Perks of Tommy John Go Anywhere™ Trunks and Moroccan Tee

Unbelievable Comfort of the Go Anywhere™ Trunks:

The first thing that struck me about these Tommy Johns underwear trunks was the sheer comfort. It’s genuinely surprising how significant the difference is compared to standard cotton boxer briefs. It’s the kind of upgrade you didn’t know you were missing. It’s almost as if men have collectively been suffering in silence, unaware of the existence of truly comfortable underwear.

These boxer briefs operate like a secret weapon in your wardrobe. They subtly enhance your confidence simply by being there. It’s the “Tommy John Effect”—a feeling of enhanced comfort and confidence that starts from the foundation of your outfit.

A key benefit is that they stay in place. No more constant adjustments or fabric riding up your leg. Putting on trousers becomes a smoother experience, without the awkward five-minute dance of tugging and readjusting your underwear legs. The absence of bunching contributes significantly to the overall comfort.

The athletic fabric of the Go Anywhere™ line also has a functional advantage. It’s smooth and slick against your pants, allowing for unrestricted movement. It almost feels like you’re wearing nothing underneath, in the best possible way.

The Quick Draw® Fly design is a revelation. It’s a simple yet brilliant feature that every underwear brand should adopt. It’s practical and efficient, eliminating the need to navigate the confusing and often cumbersome traditional fly designs. Let’s be honest, who has time to decipher the engineering of a cotton labyrinth when nature calls?

Moroccan Tee Comfort and Quality:

The Moroccan Tee is equally impressive in terms of comfort. The fabric is soft and feels substantial. While the neck opening is a bit wider than my personal preference, it’s been deemed stylish by others, including my wife. More importantly, it feels fantastic to wear.

The material is wrinkle-resistant and has a noticeable weight to it, which I personally appreciate in a t-shirt. Despite its weight, it remains breathable. It drapes well and feels like a quality garment that’s designed to last.

The Price Point – The Downside

The main drawback of Tommy Johns underwear is undoubtedly the price. At $23-$34 per pair for these trunks, they are significantly more expensive than many competitors in the men’s underwear market. This price point might be a barrier for some, especially when compared to budget-friendly multi-packs.

Durability remains a question mark in the long term. Having only tested them for a month at the time of the initial review, it’s difficult to assess their long-term wear and tear. However, initial impressions regarding quality are very positive. A six-month update provides further insights into their longevity.

The Real Issue – Wanting More Tommy Johns Underwear

Perhaps the biggest “bad” aspect isn’t really a flaw, but a consequence of their comfort and performance: wanting more. After experiencing the superior comfort and functionality of Tommy Johns underwear, going back to regular underwear feels like a downgrade. The desire to replace my entire underwear drawer with Tommy Johns is strong.

Investing in more pairs is definitely on the horizon.

Final Verdict: Is Tommy Johns Underwear Worth the Upgrade?

The question that many men ponder is: Is premium, performance-oriented underwear truly worth the extra cost? After experiencing Tommy Johns underwear, the answer is a resounding yes.

Yes, absolutely. Treat yourself to the upgrade.

** SIX MONTH UPDATE **

Following up after six months of wear and washing, the Tommy Johns underwear has held up remarkably well. I’ve received inquiries about their durability, and while it might seem unusual to discuss underwear longevity, it’s a valid concern given the price point.

After wearing and washing them approximately once every 10 days, the trunks are still in excellent condition. There’s minimal pilling, only a tiny bit noticeable on the top edge of the elastic waistband, likely due to dryer exposure.

Overall, there are no significant wear and tear issues. They look, feel, and perform almost identically to when they were new. It’s worth considering that those who might experience quicker wear might be either significantly more active or wearing them much more frequently than I do.

For average daily wear and moderate activity levels, Tommy Johns underwear appears to be durable and long-lasting, justifying the initial investment in comfort and quality.
