Born on May 28, 1943, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Louis and Myrtle Creech, John Creech lived a life marked by devotion to his family, passion for his career, and love for his coastal roots.
Growing up in the idyllic Carolina Beach, John Creech cherished his childhood days. He attended New Hanover High School and spent his free time engaged in sports, fishing with his father and brother on the beach, and enjoying the iconic Britt’s Donuts on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. These formative experiences instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for the simple joys of life and the importance of family bonds.
After graduating high school, John Creech pursued higher education at Duke University, where he further demonstrated his athletic spirit as a member of the University’s Football team. He also joined the Alpha Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Order, building lasting friendships and connections. His time at Duke laid the foundation for his future success and personal growth.
John Creech embarked on a distinguished career in the paperboard industry following his graduation from Duke. His professional journey spanned several decades, during which he earned respect and admiration for his expertise and dedication. He achieved the esteemed position of partner in a paperboard company, a testament to his hard work and leadership. While proud of his professional accomplishments, John Creech always considered his family to be his greatest achievement and source of pride.
A devoted and loyal family man, John Creech was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, cousin, and friend. He was particularly proud to be a father to two daughters and embraced the role of a “girl dad” with immense joy. He leaves behind his daughters, Amy Creech (Jeff) and Carrie McDonald, grandsons Trace McDonald (Alexa) and Blake McDonald (Jessie), great-grandson J.D., niece Allison Creech (Ko), and great-nephew Reidan. John was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Myrtle Creech, and his brother, Edward Creech.
In his final years, John Creech faced illness with courage and resilience. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers who provided selfless care and support during this challenging time.
