Caddy’s John’s Pass: Your Ultimate Waterfront Bar & Grill Experience

Located in the heart of the bustling Historic John’s Pass Boardwalk, Caddy’s /The Hut Bar & Grill stands out as a premier destination for those seeking live music and breathtaking waterfront views. This venue, rich in history, was once connected to Skulley’s Seafood Restaurant, a local favorite for years. Following the challenges of COVID shutdowns, Caddy’s took over, breathing new life into this iconic spot.

The entrance to Caddy’s is truly unique, marked by a striking 15-foot tall carnival-style tiki head. This impressive pass-through welcomes guests into an open breezeway, offering a glimpse of the large, house-like building. Painted in a distinctive brick red with lime green trim, the building echoes the vibrant spirit of its Madeira Beach location. This color scheme also ties it visually to the adjacent restaurant, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

Stepping inside, guests are greeted by a vast hall, adorned with floor-to-ceiling tiki columns. While the exterior hints at tiki influences, the interior leans more towards a lively Florida surf shack vibe. The wood-beamed tin ceiling adds a rustic touch, while flat-screen TVs positioned around the room, alongside beer signs, reinforce the casual, beachy atmosphere. It’s a space designed for relaxation and enjoying the waterfront setting.

While not a traditional mid-century tiki bar, Caddy’s incorporates playful tiki elements. Large, cartoonish molded tiki figures holding bottles add a touch of whimsy. However, the overall decor is more reminiscent of a classic beer hall, enhanced with beach-themed surfboard signs and Indonesian-style tiki masks. This eclectic mix creates a fun and approachable environment for all visitors.

One of the most impressive features of Caddy’s John’s Pass is its extensive thatched roof, visible from the boardwalk at the back of the venue. The sheer scale of the thatching is remarkable, adding an unexpected and authentic touch to the beachside bar. This detail sets Caddy’s apart and contributes to its unique character.

Extending from the back of Caddy’s is a remarkable 70-foot waterfront dock, stretching into the scenic John’s Pass. This expansive dock provides ample space for outdoor dining, allowing guests to savor their meals and drinks while being surrounded by the stunning water views. Adding to the allure, it’s a popular spot for dolphin sightings, creating memorable moments for diners.

It’s worth noting the history of Caddy’s John’s Pass. Formerly known as The Hut Bar & Grill and previously linked to Sculley’s Waterfront Restaurant, the location underwent changes following COVID-related closures. In July 2021, William Karns Enterprises Inc., associated with the Caddy’s Restaurant Group, acquired the property in a significant $5 million deal. Reopened as Caddy’s in 2022, the venue retains its familiar appearance, though the menu and beverage offerings now align with the Caddy’s brand, ensuring a consistent quality and experience for patrons.
