John Ennis, a man known for his love of golf, ice cream, and his charming personality, passed away on June 23, 2020. Born on October 7, 1930, in Binghamton, NY, John was the son of Catherine Mullin, who affectionately called him Jackie, a nickname that stayed with him throughout his life. He was the middle child among five siblings, including Matthew (Amos), Maryanne (Nan), James, and his surviving sister Alyce Hunt.
Golf was more than just a hobby for John Ennis; it was a lifelong passion that led him on numerous exciting journeys. His golfing achievements included attending the prestigious Presidents Cup in 1999, winning the Senior Champion title, and being honored with “The Super Senior Champion Award” at Green Lakes in 2004, showcasing his enduring skill and enthusiasm for the game. Beyond his personal pursuits, John dedicated part of his life to working at the Berkshire School, where he used his own experiences of being a “misfit” to guide and mentor boys, undoubtedly teaching them valuable life lessons.
In his professional life, John Ennis excelled in sales, demonstrating his persuasive abilities across various industries, from automobiles to juicers. Known for his exceptional salesmanship, it was often joked that he could sell ice to Eskimos. His love for ice cream was legendary, with frequent visits to Marble Farms freezers and an impressive ability to devour half a gallon of Neapolitan ice cream in one sitting. John also cherished the New England region and enjoyed trips to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, with his late wife, Madeline. An enthusiast of games of chance, Blackjack was his favorite, and he often tested his luck in Las Vegas and Atlantic City alongside his dear friends Sissy and Phil.
John Ennis is survived by his four children: Susan (his self-proclaimed favorite), Michael, and Christopher (David predeceased him). He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jacquelin, Wayne, and Whitney, and three great-grandchildren, Alena, Tayvon, and Carter, affectionately known as Catfish.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Amen.
