Former Philadelphia meteorologist John Bolaris found himself in a heated situation at a Rittenhouse Square bar this past Sunday night, involving Rouge restaurant owner Rob Wasserman and a resolute bouncer.
Like many Philadelphians, John Bolaris, once a prominent local weatherman and now a realtor, decided to catch the Eagles game at a bar on Sunday. His choice was Cavanaugh’s in Rittenhouse Square. However, the evening took an unexpected turn when he encountered Rob Wasserman, the owner of Rouge, a well-known Philadelphia eatery. The encounter reportedly did not go smoothly, culminating in Bolaris being asked to leave the premises.

In times past, John Bolaris was a fixture at Rouge, particularly during his tenure as a popular meteorologist. Rouge, at that time, was a hotspot in Philadelphia, and Bolaris was a frequent subject in local gossip columns, often in connection with the restaurant. As an example, a 2008 gossip item in the Daily News mentioned Bolaris engaging in some public displays of affection at Rouge.
However, the relationship between John Bolaris and Rob Wasserman has apparently soured considerably since those days. Bolaris claims the rift is connected to a “$10 million lawsuit.” According to Bolaris, his intention on Sunday night at Cavanaugh’s was to approach Wasserman to attempt to resolve their differences. The specifics of what transpired next remain somewhat unclear, but it involved some form of confrontation, which concluded with Cavanaugh’s staff escorting Bolaris out of the bar.
Undeterred, John Bolaris attempted to re-enter Cavanaugh’s, phone in hand and recording. At this point, a bouncer intervened, firmly denying Bolaris re-entry. Bolaris shared a video clip of this interaction, which captures the bouncer repeatedly telling Bolaris “no,” while Bolaris responds that he is “just filming everyone.”
Following the incident, John Bolaris took to social media, making certain allegations against Rob Wasserman. These allegations are not detailed here as they remain unverified claims.
“Rob Wasserman is a piece of shit,” Bolaris reportedly stated on Sunday night, also expressing a provocative “I hope he sues me.”
Rob Wasserman has not responded to requests for comments regarding the incident. Representatives from Cavanaugh’s have also declined to comment on the events of Sunday night.
Eagles Victory and Super Bowl Odds
Shifting away from the bar scene, the Philadelphia Eagles did secure a victory against the Baltimore Ravens with a score of 24-19. As of Monday, bookmakers are placing the Eagles among the top contenders for the Super Bowl title, generally with the second or third best odds. The Detroit Lions are currently favored, with the Kansas City Chiefs also in close contention according to some odds. The Eagles are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers at home next Sunday.
SEPTA Fare Increase Now Active
For those using Philadelphia’s public transportation system, SEPTA, fares have increased. The previous electronic fare discount is no longer in effect, and everyone now pays a uniform rate of $2.50 for buses, trolleys, and subway lines. Regional Rail fares have also been raised. SEPTA’s last fare increase was in 2017.
